E3 Hype Preview: Super Mario Maker

If there is one game that gets modded a lot in the PC community, it would be the first person shooter. Games like CounterStrike, Halo, and even Call of Duty have their mods to enhance the current game to make new experiences. After that, in my opinion, it’s the platformer. Think about how many times you would see old school Mario and Sonic roms modded to make even harder challenges, as well as the many popular videos that our favorite YouTube personalities have posted on these challenges. I have done a few of those Mario roms on the DS and Wii and they were a lot of fun and also very frustrating. Now what if you could take that experience of extreme challenge and make it all in a Nintendo-licensed game. That’s the challenge that Super Mario Maker on Wii U is presenting to us.

This image is just baby steps for whats to come.

To me, LittleBigPlanet started the trend of user-created content on our consoles with its vast library of levels, original and inspired. Super Mario maker looks to ramp that up to infinity. Just imagine how crazy this game could become using familiar terrains, enemies, powerups, and even newer mechanics like Amiibo compatibility to get characters such as Link or Mega Man in this game. My crazy mind wants to see Sonic in a Mario game, officially by the way.

Nintendo World Championships

If you need a visual of the chaos that could occur in Mario Maker, look no further than the recent Nintendo World Championships. This resurrection of the 1980 classic competition saw Mario Maker as the final game with levels created by the Nintendo Clubhouse team. Boy were some of them a doozy. Not as hard as what some sadists could be inventing on release day, but challenging nonetheless for two gamers who never got hands on with the mechanics. Here is a link to that section of the Championships just so you get a good eye of what's to come.

With an infinite amount of possible levels to play, including 100 out of the box that the developers have created, as well as online sharing and challenge modes, Super Mario Maker could be the most complete Mario experience we will have for 2015 and for years to come. Unless sequels come out for this. Just make one for the 3DS and we can talk. Or how about a Sonic Maker...................

What if, man......what if? (Photo by http://jmkrebs30.deviantart.com/)
